Hydrogen sulphide (H2S) is a chemical compound. It is a colourless gas characterized by its offensive rotten egg odour; however, at high concentrations the ability to detect the odour is affected due to temporary paralysis of the olfactory nerves. It is very poisonous, corrosive, and flammable. It is one of the deadliest hazards in the oil and gas industry. It is also prevalent in other industries such as agriculture, manufacturing, chemical, and sewers.
Employers are required under the Occupational Health and Safety Act to ensure that all workers who may be exposed to a hazardous agent receive appropriate instruction and training. A good training program is the best protection you can provide for your employees working in this hazardous environment.
Employers are required to provide training for workers in H2S areas. This course requires a yearly refresher, pulmonary function test, fit test and medical surveillance.
This instructor led Hydrogen Sulphide Safety training course will guide you through all aspects of hydrogen sulphide safety. It will teach you the basic properties of hydrogen sulphide, effects of exposure, required personal protective equipment, and operating and rescue procedures.
This course will prepare you to work safely in an environment with the risk of hydrogen sulphide exposure.
Successful completion of this course requires an 80% grade on a written exam (theory) and a "pass" rating on the practical portion.
