A fire extinguisher is an active fire protection device used to extinguish or control small fires, often in emergency situations. It is not intended for use on out-of-control fires, such as one that has reached the ceiling, endangers the user, or otherwise requires the expertise of a fire department. Typically, a fire extinguisher consists of a hand-held cylindrical pressure vessel containing an agent that can be discharged to extinguish a fire. Fire extinguishers are divided into four categories based on the type of fire they can control.
It is highly recommended by fire prevention experts that all persons receive hands-on training prior to operating an extinguisher. Proper fire extinguisher use is your first line of defence in protecting people and property in the event of a fire.
This course will give you the confidence to respond quickly to a fire emergency.
This instructor led Fire Extinguisher training delivers both theory and the practical hands on application of a portable fire extinguisher. The theory component describes the five different classes of fire, their characteristics, the fire tetrahedron, and the physical properties of a portable fire extinguisher. The practical component takes you outside where a live fire training system will be used. Each student will be able to apply the classroom theory by extinguishing one or several controlled fires. There is no resulting mess or environmental damage.
This material is applicable to both the office and home environments.
Successful completion of this course requires an 80% grade on a written exam (theory) and a "pass" rating on the practical portion.
Upon successful completion a certificate of completion and wallet card will be issued and will expire 1 year after date of completion.
